Banks Davis was known for his pastoral landscape and animal scenes. He exhibited over 100 works at the Royal Academy between 1852 - 1904, and enjoyed a very high degree of success throughout his career. I chose this painting for the focus on detail and his capture of the light. In fact, trying to recreate his use of light and color in the earth itself was something I found very (very) challenging. Color mixing and glazing were where I learned the most with this painting. This painting is part of my "After the Masters" series painted for the American Academy of Art Spring Online show (https://www.aaea.info/viewcollection/159426).
