Collection: Kirschstein Collection

This collection is focused on Erhard and Charlotte Kirschstein’s postwar Berlin collaboration, which resulted in enduring prints and paintings. It seeks to support further study of their lives and work as a visual record of a society shaped by war, reconstruction, and Cold War division. This collection provides a coherent body of material through which the Kirschstein’s work may be evaluated, contextualized, and reconsidered as historical evidence as much as artistic production.
