Yellow Field presents the spare geometry of the Upper Midwest agricultural landscape with quiet confidence. A red barn and smaller outbuilding sit at the horizon line, their simple forms — scarlet walls, broad silver-grey roof — providing the composition's sole vertical anchor against an expansive, even sky in clear cerulean blue. The foreground unfolds in sweeping horizontal bands: harvested wheat stubble in pale gold giving way to a rolling swathe of yellow blooms of sunflowers — then a band of deep green, the whole sequence describing the layered rhythms of a working northern Minnesota farm. Beck's multi-block process renders each color zone with crisp, clean boundaries, the texture of grain and field built up in small, dense marks that give the flat landscape a subtle, breathing vitality
