Artist Biography (Short):
Elizabeth “Betty” Strand was an American artist and art educator who taught at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, during the 1960s and 1970s. She held graduate degrees in art from the University of Iowa and was known for her rigorous modernist approach to form and studio practice.
Notes:
This work reflects Strand’s mid-century modernist drawing practice, emphasizing mass, tonal structure, and abstract organic form. The title Jan 28 derives from the artist’s inscription and is treated as a formal title rather than a dated work.
