Blasko’s ‘Sub Specie Aeternitatis’ installation stages mortality through everyday objects turned into symbols of time and finitude: a pyramid of pickles, life preserved and stacked like batteries; three stopped clocks, each frozen at a different hour; and a cabinet filled with tchotchkes, film, and Slovak philosophical texts. The accompanying film meditates on distance, death, and metaphysics with tender images of his grandmother’s hands and the voice of his uncle. Yet the work is without melancholy. By arranging these elements as a theatrical scene, Blasko acts as host, inviting viewers into a space not about death itself, but about conversation, warmth, and presence, an art of intimacy that resists superficiality and cold detachment.
