This artwork is the first of a series of three entitled The Patterns Series.
It started out as a conscious attempt of mental liberation from the self-imposed „patterns“ backtracking to a need for symmetry and clearly defined boundaries.
It is said that progress begins outside the comfort zone.
We mostly define the comfort zone by these known and/or trusted boundaries.
To grow and evolve, we are bound to challenge the boundaries. What we do not master, we should strive for.
With the strive for perfection comes the danger of overdoing it.
Although I regard perfectionism as a mostly helpful and positive trait, concentrating on it too much leads actually to the reverse of the desired outcome.
With this topic on my mind I drew actual patterns and tried to balance the straight lines and unadorned decoration of the squares through the freehand-hatching and happy colors.
Careful and patient observers will most definitely find the couple discrepancies from the pattern.
Unintentional, but most welcome discrepancies, as they challenged the exact trait I was trying to break.
The original drawing is not for sale.
Art prints may be purchased per order/on request.
