Seiji Kunishima’s sculpture features a nearly square bronze panel, softly patinated and bearing delicate tool marks, which cradles a single, unaltered stone selected directly from a quarry. The interplay between the bronze’s refined, warm surface and the stone’s raw, irregular form creates a subtle yet compelling tension. Rather than dominating one another, the materials exist in quiet balance—each maintaining its integrity while enhancing the presence of the other. Kunishima’s composition reflects a refined sensibility, one that prioritizes restraint, precision, and a deep respect for the inherent qualities of natural matter. The work offers a contemplative engagement with material and form, inviting viewers to consider the relationship between human craftsmanship and the quiet persistence of elemental nature.
