Kunishima was born in Nagoya City, Japan in 1937. He graduated from Musashino Art University, Tokyo in 1956. He uses natural materials in combination with man-made materials and visits a quarry to choose stones. Kunishima is known to create sculptures characterized by a serene balance between the traditional and the modern. A major work of his is located at Ichinomiya Hikota Park, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Commissions: California First Bank, Little Tokyo, Los Angeles; Nakazawa Clinic, Suzuka, Mie Prefecture, Japan; and Oi Daiyon Park, Tokoyo, Japan. Resides in Nagoya City, Japan.
