Almost every painting I create is autobiographical in some way, but this one is especially so. While sorting through boxes from my mother's estate, I came across this lovingly handmade baby dress. Very likely it was my baptism gown. My kind but oh-so-practical mother didn't hang onto many things, but this she saved. The image at lower right is my father in his Sunday best, holding me.

This is likely to stay in my own collection, but maybe you have a garment that's special to you. A painting of a dress or shirt is a metaphor for the loved one who wore it, revealing facets of their personality. It's a form of portraiture.
