This painting was partially inspired by the concept of boundaries and examining which boundaries are real, artificial or desirable. I became intrigued with the idea of creating a painting that was twenty feet wide in my 12' x 12' studio. Most artists would think my studio would limit my painting sizes to something less than 12 feet. I knew there was a way to get beyond this boundary. After moving some things and working directly with the canvas tacked to the wall and around the corners in my studio I started working on a canvas of large scale proportions, 77” x 20’.
“I wanted to work on something big and get rid of my excuses of why not to do so. I needed to be challenged and fully engaged and this scale forces that hand." The large painting, titled Infinite Quest, employs a background of text from an Agnes Martin quote obscured with drips and abstract flourishes contrasted with 3-D like richly hued geometric structures that rest on the surface.
