A single Mullein plant in bloom was my inspiration for this piece, completed during a 2-hour quick-draw as part of Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters' Plein Air for the Park 2017 in Grand Teton National Park.

The subject 's resonance with me relates to the severe illness of my father at the time, the candle image being symbol of hope and prayer.
