Breathe

When did this become so hard.

I had never really given this basic function of living much thought until I was surrounded by its absence. When I look at Breathe, I feel my eyes wandering and my breath catching. I am pulled back to the very last moments when I matched my breath to my father's and how mine continued on. I trace my hand over the rise and fall, intensely imagining this circle is my rhythm. The steep fast fall of my exhale as the colors rush down then sweep around and back up as air fills my lungs again.
