I was gliding along in my kayak when I was suddenly struck by the view ahead; my son and husband, backlit in the bright August sunshine, their paddling motion disturbing the pristine reflection of the sky and forest in the water of our small lake. The image so succinctly encapsulated my experience of living in the northwoods, I had to paint it. The title references the old Hamm's Beer jingle.
Working from photos I took that day, I started with a mask-and-pour method for the big shapes and completed the painting using traditional brushwork.
