Three birch trees, partially obscured by a branch of oak leaves, catch a ray of sunlight. The scene is that of the artist’s path along a small northern lake at the peak of fall color. The title “Northwoods Passage” refers the passage of time and the coming of a new season, but also the passage of the property from one generation to the next. The painting was executed using a poured technique for the background, and finished using traditional brushwork.
