Aquarelle sticks are watercolours with a bit of soluble wax added to allow them to be shaped into crayons. I like them for several reasons, primarily because they can be layered, which is not the case with classical watercolours. Aquarelle sticks can be drawn with when dry and then dissolved with water and the resulting marks are watercolours, indistinguishable from classical cake or tube watercolours. They make it possible to paint or draw with the same media, which I find opens up whole new possibilities.
