This is the first work in my Habitat Series. Up until I started this series, I painted in a wide variety of media (oil, watercolour, inks) and had done very little collage. The topic of the series - Habitats - made me consider that collage could offer an interesting way to combine the concepts of different sorts of habitats and the species that inhabit them. Obviously, the diversity of plants, animals, insects and more living creatures in any habitat is enormous and my goal is not to try to depict them all, but to choose representative parts and follow themes. The use of paper cut-outs offered an intriguing way to look at the habitats of forests and oceans and some of their living inhabitants.
