Moonlight Through the Woods (series of blood clots)

I created this series of mixed media pieces to play with light as storytelling. This was the era of Corona Virus. I took a form from a blood clot from a lung, noticing how similar the shape to a tree. As so much of the world lay sick or dying, the forests of clotty branches popped up in their more ephemeral spirit, as light flashes through silk. The works are layered material. Birch base, holographic vinyl collage, acrylic medium, painted and dyed silk. Depending on the light, silk can be opaque or transparent, giving way to flashes of form, light and color. These works are devoted to the lights we have and those we have lost, this year.
