This is a site-specific installation commission by Mass MoCA, in North Adams, Massachusetts, as part of the ‘Invisible Cities’ exhibition. In this piece, I tore down the existing gallery walls and created a replica of the stud walls, nails, and shims made entirely out of white soap. The aroma of the soap filled the museum space. Over the course of the 9-month exhibition, the soap lost it moisture and began to shrink, shift, and crack, taking on the characteristics of the wood that was replicating.
