A series of 4 cross-sectional views of the threshold between the ocean and the land. Based on the Mary Oliver poem 'I Go Down to the Shore', this piece explores the persistent work and breath of the ocean. The mica and graphite shimmer in the changing light, reflecting similarly to direct sunlight on moving water.
I go down to the shore in the morning
and depending on the hour the waves
are rolling in or moving out,
and I say, oh, I am miserable,
what shall—
what should I do? And the sea says
in its lovely voice:
Excuse me, I have work to do.
