When I first heard this term, it was directed towards me and how my outfit exuded #maincharacterenergy . I’m not on TikTok but I assumed this terminology was specific to the internet speak of that sphere. After delving into it and seeing the countless “motivational” TikToks encouraging you to seize the day, I concluded that I actually really resonate with the concept of romanticizing your life and believing that you’re the protagonist. The term is tinged with the vanity, conceit and disillusionment that social media and its highlight reel tendency enables, but aside from that, I still think it’s a valuable mindset.
Viewing yourself as the main character is a lens through which you can see the world, appreciate the beauty in your life, and confidently take charge of your personal narrative. Even struggles that you go through can be viewed as “character building” or events that make the plot interesting. Just like life isn’t a highlight reel, a story without adversity and growth isn’t interesting. Overall, I think being the “Main Character” is a mindset that can help you celebrate your life—the big and small events, even the struggles.
I think this sculpture completely exudes “Main Character Energy”. She’s the protagonist. Despite the hardships she’s been through, she knows who she is, who she wants to become and she won’t stop discovering and living her fullest potential. She won’t stop dancing to her own life.
