Busy as bees.

Studio Update: March 2018

It's a beehive of activity around here, working our way through various projects. Watching the work progress and move its way out of the studio has been very satisfying and, I have to admit, a bit of a relief.

The work is a joy to create, which includes a level of responsibility to get it right and deliver on time, especially for projects like hotels and cruise ships that are on countdown to open or launch.

It takes a hive of experts—including photographers, fine art printers, laser cut workshop, talented studio assistant, framers, and fine art shippers—to get this all done.

To each of them, I am extremely grateful! Just as I'm grateful to you for continuing to support my work.

With warm regards,

New Series for The Phoenician Resort

Kelly M. O'Brien, Playing With Fire No. 77 (detail). Paper, gold leaf, ink, flame. 32 x 24 x 1.5 inches. ©2018. Commissioned for The Phoenician, Scottsdale, Arizona. Set of four.

The Phoenician Resort is an iconic luxury retreat in Scottsdale, Arizona. A massive multi-phased renovation has been underway, including a new three-story spa that opens this month.

I'm so pleased that four of my pieces will soon be gracing the walls of this gorgeous property. Click here for more images and details.

Behind the Scenes

Handwork by studio assistant Pip Faulkner-Lee to apply 22.5K Champagne Gold transfer leaf for a set of limited edition hand-embellished prints.

Freshly finished work for a private commission. At 250 x 90 cm (approx. 98 x 35 in.), that's a lot of gold leaf! Cosmo the studio dog's input was instrumental. Can't wait to see it framed and installed.
