My husband inherited a cottage in Devon that had been lived in by his bachelor uncle for many years. He was a keen gardener, his main interest being in propagation of unusual varieties. His conservatory was filled with pots of plants, many dead by the time we gained possession. He was a collector and recorder of facts and kept every discarded label in an old flower pot. In his tiny hand writing he records his failures - DEAD - and his triumphs - ORANGE! Being a bit of a collector myself I rescued all these labels and made this piece and others using scrap timber and even nails found in the potting shed.
