John Adey Repton's NORWICH CATHEDRAL at the end of the eighteenth century with descriptive notes by William Wilkins.
The blurb reads 'This publication represents the first extension of the 'Cathedral Series' of the Society of Antiquaries of London for more than 160 years. It is based upon drawings commissioned in about 1798 by the Norwich architect William Wilkins and a contemporary description of the cathedral by him which has only recently come to light among the Society's manuscripts. These two original sources, hitherto unpublished, together form an almost unique documentation of a great English Norman cathedral.
The drawings were made by John Adey Repton, a young architect friend of William Wilkins, and the work, completed about 1800, is one of the highest standard, manifesting patient preparation, exhuastive attention to detail, accurate and excellent draughtsmanship.
The sixteen drawings were sold to the Society of Antiquaries in 1806 and are now being reproduced for the first time in a limited edition of one thousand copies.'
