Framed I used a technique of mixing and pouring on paint in various 'concoctions' to create the textured and colorful base, or underpainting, in a form that roughly resembled what I was wanting to express. From there I added a collage of found papers, and sometimes more paint or other mediums. I tried to achieve a cohesive look in these multiple layers and mediums so that they all played nicely together. In Time Goes On, a bit of my science and anthropology background peeks through. As I was creating the colorful layers of earth, as well as the layers of art mediums, I was thinking about how much history we are oblivious to as we go about our business today. As a child I roamed our farm and found arrowheads and bits of pottery, fragments of evidence of previous inhabitants of the land. Kansas is also known for its rich fossil fields, also evidence of days gone by. One day the current inhabitants will also be a thing of the past, either remembered or not, as time relentlessly marches on. The smoke out the chimney speaks to our lives being but a vapor... here today and gone tomorrow. Not meant to be negative, just how we all hold our place in the timeline.
