Casein has long been used as an underpainting material for oils. It dries quickly and hardens over time to be insoluble. It has a nice feel to work with and unique qualities all it's own. I started this with the idea of working over it in oil but I love the subtle aspects of the casein so I'm thinking I will leave this as is and do another in oil either from this one or from a similar set up in the studio. The dried roses laying on the table are the last view of the roses I have had for three years or more.
