This painting is a self portrait as sky and clouds transcending the border. The hoop earring references Chicano culture and is also a sit in for a rococo style frame. The represents BIPOC people infiltrating the art world after a long history of racism and sexism. The portals are safe pathways to cross the border. I thought of the portals when I was thinking of ways to reimagine welcome at the US/Mexico border.
