This artwork shows the driving route from Derby to Karunjie Station, along the Gibb River Road, mapping my first bush trip into Ngarinyin territory to attend an Indigenous Protected Area meeting at Karunjie Station in 2012.
About the series:
The last decade of my life seems defined by experiences in the West Kimberley bush. As a remote arts worker, I moved through Wandjina Wunggurr Countries supporting community art and recording projects. With this period of time behind me, I reflect on the many adventures and shared experiences in nature, travelling the backtracks. Drawing has become a way to remember, process and share fragments of personal memories relating to my story. Without giving away too much detail, the artworks are less of an archival record and more focused on drawing out memories as a cathartic process.
