Artist Statement:
"Due to vision loss, 'Soul Treats' was my first attempt in January 2023 to paint the playful interaction of energy between my son Kyle, when he was a young boy, and our family dog, but I could only paint the body image. By the end of May, 2023, my eyesight ability had improved due to my diligent daily drawing exercises and ongoing Yoshinkan Aikido martial arts practice. Both of which have aided me in rewiring my brain, as my actual eyes have not changed. The gold paint was chosen to demonstrate how objects flatten out in different light making the details of faces difficult to determine as they disappear - this is an aspect of how I see. The painting was part of my eye rehabilitation process so I was only trying to paint experiences from my life that had given me untold joy.
