From the series A Succession of Little Things, based on the Tree of Heaven plants which I pass daily in an abandoned lot near the studio. I am attracted to plants’ persistence in the face of disregard and the grace and elegance in the simple shape of its leaves. I use the plants to create abstracted stencils over and around which I build thin coats of paint. Working intuitively and responding to these “positive” forms, I play with addition and erasure. What remains is a record of the making: traces of shapes and residue of sketched and painted lines as visible trains of thought.
