Hooked on Violet
Watercolor on paper
© Katherine J. Ford
Part of the Flower and Fly series, this watercolor captures a moment of natural synchronicity: the emergence of early violets alongside the first hatches of mayflies. Both are fragile signs of spring, appearing just as the weather begins to shift. The pairing highlights nature’s quiet choreography—when wildflowers bloom and insects rise, signaling to fish (and anglers) that the season has begun. Special thank you to Yvonne von Abendsprung for her fly and photo.
