Ferns II Image: Using neon green as a base, this piece references neon signs, a symbol of contemporaneous capitalism which is an actively force of destruction of our natural world. Using ferns as language, this work is a billboard for ferns and other plant life, fighting for their lives and for ours.

Neon also has a deep history of craft, and so using embroidery and neon together is a nod to this history. While it has been relegated to a lower realm in the hierarchies of art, craft is often deeply conceptual and steeped in tradition and technique in a way that allows it to speak in rich and complex ways. Similarly, the natural world is not given credit for the wisdom and complexity it holds. Every ecosystem is profound in its balance and consideration, yet humans value their technological achievements more than the wonders of the natural world.
