All That We Leave Behind No. 6
Observation of litter. As new random objects appear in the local fields in Carlsbad, I document them. Questions swirl in my head, how long are they going to stay there...1 day...a week….a month...5 years? Who will be the one to throw it out if it does not decay? Who left them? In the case of “All that We Leave Behind No 6.” it was, yet again, another chair, a plastic lawn chair this time as opposed to the wicker ones that rotted away four years ago. A construction safety cone is steadily perched on top. Who left this here? As a society who hasn;t seen the variety of unneeded items tossed on the side of the road; couches, office chairs, or the occasional refrigerator hoping it will find a new home. Even buildings are sometimes left to rot . If it's private property the city won’t be cleaning it up any time soon. Focusing on a small area in Carlsbad, I paint these as documentation, adding them to my collection of the things we leave behind.
