In this painting, I focused on building a dominant field of golden yellow-orange to hold the space. I wanted the color to feel direct and steady—like sustained sunlight—without breaking it up too much. The surface is layered so the warmth has depth rather than flatness.
I introduced blue-greens in concentrated areas to activate the field. Because they sit opposite the yellow-orange on the color wheel, they create tension and movement without overwhelming the composition. They’re meant to sharpen the experience of the warmth, not compete with it.
There are also light lavender washes worked into select passages. These are subtle and atmospheric. They cool the surface slightly and create breathing room within the intensity of the central hue.
With Good Day Sunshine V, I’m continuing my exploration of how large areas of color can generate mood and physical response through contrast, balance, and restraint.
