Winner of SWAIA Santa Fe Indian Market “Indigenous Collections Grand Award” in 2021. This painting was modeled after a photo taken by Naiomi’s brother Ty Glasses. Naiomi and her brother live with their family within the Navajo Nation. Naiomi has been skateboarding as well as weaving since she was very young.
The imposing mirror image is meant to capture Naiomi’s dynamic multi-faceted personality. It was painted on an original 1984 National Geographic map of the SouthWest; centered on the map and in the back of the painting is the Navajo Nation. Naiomi conquered incredible odds and is now posing as an inspiration to thousands of women who are breaking the mold. This painting is dedicated to her strength of will and presence of purpose.
