Beginning in January 2019, a family of four collected their plastic for me for an entire year. Each 2’ wide banner represents the plastic they would have thrown in the trash each month.
Year of Plastic, Family of Four was born from a desire to see how the small, seemingly insignificant decisions of daily life add up and ultimately scale up when multiplied across households, neighborhoods, cities, countries. Displayed so it covers an entire gallery wall and then spills out onto the floor, it’s a profoundly intimate piece, documenting the very personal decisions this family made as they nourished their bodies, traveled for leisure, for work, and for a family funeral. No matter who you are or what your life circumstances are, the comparisons to your own habits and behaviors are inevitable.
