Teflon Chains Dress
- PTFE tape, telephone and stereo wires, tv cables
- Kalliopi Monoyios
This piece of wearable art is made from telephone and stereo wires (the chains) and tv cables (the structure), wrapped in Teflon tape. Teflon is one of about 2000 "forever chemicals" so named because of their environmental persistence. The problem is, they're super good at what they do and as a result, are integral to many vital industrial processes. I use it as a wrapping material in general as a statement on what we value and what is worth preserving. This dress, simultaneously seductive and repellent, plays on the tension Teflon poses as a material that is both vital and detrimental.
