A collaborative piece: "9 students in my Beginning Painting class in 2022 were given panels with an outline penciled on the board, with no idea they all went together, nor what the top/bottom were. The only guidelines were what color (blue, yellow, green, red) went in each space, and if two colors were side by side - either a total change or design difference so they look different. The rest was up to them. The students were of varying degrees of experience in art. After they finished I put the black lines in - I DID NOTHING ELSE. Then I showed them what it looked like. I LOVE IT. A couple of guys didn't speak much english and me no Spanish. But as I've discovered, art speaks to everyone. Even having not looked at it for months, I still love it. 9 students, all inmates, all nationalities, one piece of art, one common language."
