This piece is made from paper on paper, scraps cut and glued to the surface. In high school the art teacher had a project at Christmas time in which we art students had to cut out (solid pieces) and glue together cartoon characters to be hung in the hallways. Each one represented a student. My first year I did a terrible job, but thereafter I loved it. I remember making a Cereberus the Aardvark (a comic book figure), among others. In prison, some years ago, I tried to adapt the idea to portraiture, though it didn't work as well as I had liked, trying to cut solid shapes into an accurate likeness. After a while I collected what I initially thought was useless scrap. Boy, was I mistaken! After a couple of experiments I took the construction paper idea to a new level, and, voila, Bryon's Dad appears.
