Commemorative head of a queen mother from the Benin, from the 1st half 20th century.
The bronze head has facial scarification, is life-size and very realistic. This style of heads was probably intended to be placed on the palatial altars of deceased queen mothers. Unique piece produced with the lost wax method. Good condition, used with visible signs of wear.
It is from collection of Mr. Édouard Dery, an antiquarian from Sablon, an area of Bruxelles, for 18 years during the 1970s.
