Bird Brain by Julie Peterson Shea Image: "Embracing My Neurodivergent Mind: A Nest of Perceptions"
In this pen and ink illustration, I present the intricate world inside a skeleton's head. Inspired by a photograph shared by a fellow member of the Beauty of the Dead group on Facebook from a visit to an ossuary. With the photographer’s permission to use their image I embarked on a journey of artistic interpretation.
Meet Frank, my patient skeleton model, as he embodies the essence of my own neurodivergent experience. Just like the fibers woven together within that bird's nest, my mind is a tapestry of diverse perceptions from various corners of life. Each strand representing a different thought, perspective, or sensation that intertwines to form my unique understanding of the world.
With this illustration, I invite you to glimpse into the intricate maze of my neurodivergent mind, where beauty and peculiarity harmoniously coexist. May it inspire understanding and appreciation for the diverse ways in which we all interpret the world around us.
