This little spot along Oak Creek feels like magic to me, so, I've painted several versions of it in other media: the others in both watercolor and oil. This painting is "water-media" - I used Golden Fluid Acrylic, then traditional transparent watercolor, finishing with gouache.
Spring-fed Oak Creek makes its way down through Oak Creek Canyon, creating little islands in the stream here and there – this little gem of a pool and series of small waterfalls is flowing through one such island and cascading into the main creek, where it will flow through Sedona and onward until it empties into the Verde River. Its enchanting splashes, pools and swift passage are my painting delight! The result for this particular painting is that it has a bit more of a "fanciful flair" than most of my work.
"Forest Secrets" is available through Sedona Arts Center Gallery.
