I think of this as a very romantic painting. It started with an unexpected moment of beauty one night in April when I came out of my daughter's house in Berkeley and saw this cherry tree in full bloom, lit by the streetlight. I took a photo blurry iPhone photo, then used my imagination. As I worked I thought of that song from My Fair Lady, and I began to focus on the window across the street. At the end, I added curling ribbons of pink and white, like you might see if you were lovestruck and standing outside your lover's house.
