This was the first of a small series of paintings titled Morning, Afternoon and Late Night, in which small everyday items are arranged to evoke the mood of each time of day. “Morning” was set up because I liked the geometric arrangement of the stovetop burner grates, the reflective teapot and the diagonal tiles. I also love the contrast of blue flame against the dark stovetop. The finished painting makes me think of promise and contentment. Morning is my favorite time of day – when you have a routine and you’re thinking of what you can accomplish in the coming day – after coffee, of course.
