"This painting is an expression of abandon and joy, dance and happiness... I'd drawn an Adirondack chair we have encircling a backyard fire pit, an outdoor gathering place my family members enjoyed throughout our pandemic lockdown. To me, that chair drawing represented joy in the midst of the unknown and hope for brighter days. I was playing with the lines and shapes in the drawing when a new composition emerged. The open spaces and bright colors create a celebratory feel. I felt that in the free sweeping movement of my brushwork and in the surprise textural details I added with my palette knife."
