In this painting, I appreciate the various overlapping of the leaves and playing with values of light and dark, size and shape. It reminds me of overlapping sounds in music.
In high school, my best friend and I both played flute and were quite advanced. It was a total thrill for me when we played duets together. In college, I discovered I enjoyed playing chamber music. It seemed easier to hear the harmonies and rhythmic contrasts in small groups than in the full band.
In this painting, I appreciate the various overlapping of the leaves and playing with values of light and dar, size and shape. it reminds me of overlapping sounds in music. Instead of being leaves necessarily it just seems like shapes interacting with each other like instruments in an ensemble. I savor the idea that a painting is a visual conversation.
