Fields and fields of wildflowers represent pure unadulterated joy, sheer delight. For me, a field of wildflowers has been a rare find. Yet, I've even bought a book of Appalachian wildflowers in the past. The colorful intrigue is beyond my self-control. I looked at the book over and over once home. Seeing the flowers in person is best, but once vacation is over, the pictures help satisfy the yearning.
That's the purpose of this year's paintings. They represent the delight we experience out in organic nature, unorganized by man. When choosing flowers for a bouquet I often choose a variety of flowers, even though I love when they are arranged in a balanced way. Too much chaos/variety takes away from the pleasure of the combination.
When making this painting, first, there was the pleasure of the blue-violet color against its complement, yellow. Then it changed and began to remind me of cornflowers, one of my favorites for their vivid color.
