One of my favorite times of the year. We have many azaleas in our yard and some of them last for months. When my children, son and daughter, were small we went to Calloway Gardens every Spring to ride our bikes on the trail through the azaleas and trees. We often saw deer quite near the trail. One year my son requested that his birthday party be there it was such a favorite and happy place. I wasn't sure people would go that far for a child's birthday party, over an hour away, but sure enough, they did!
There were lots of outdoor activities at Calloway Gardens, including a lake, paddle boats and more. We never tired of this tradition until my son was about ten years old and we took on a new tradition of going rafting on the Nantahala River in Fontana, NC. Today I do miss those days at Calloway Gardens and would love to go again with the families.
This painting reminds me of those days and the connection we had with spirit and family. Maybe that connection is why I thrill in the Spring when the azaleas are in full bloom in many yards here in Georgia. I feel moved even now when I look at the close-up of this image.
