Through the cyanotype process, Under View of the World depicts the bases of various porcelain objects as lost cargo in the Atlantic Ocean. The prints reference the historical transportation of goods by sea engaging histories of global trade, labor markets, cultural genocide, with the question of identiy in the colonial past and present. Moreover, the sensation of looking up at sinking cargo engages the viewer’s subjectivity in relation to the men and women who died crossing the Middle Passage.
