There is an old proverb which says "Birds of a Same Feather Flock Together. This refers to the idea that people of similar interests, background, ideas or characteristics will often congregate or hang out with each other - that people who have similar ideas or values tend to stick together. This can be both a strength and a weakness. Surrounding ourselves with others of healthy like minds and practices can help us stay focused on our goals, positively strengthen sense of self, and establish an atmosphere of security. However, "flocking together" with others of unhealthy tendencies can set up an atmosphere in our lives for also going down an unhealthy road. In another sense "Flocking Together" can also keep us from growing and developing understanding if we aren't being challenged by allowing other perspectives and experiences into our inner circle. I've found that life is more enjoyable and healthy when we find a balance of surrounding ourselves with those who are like us as well as those who are not. There is peace found in balance. These are some of the thoughts I had as I observed these koi and attempted to communicate some of these ideas in this piece through focusing on one type of koi, and balancing the composition between busy and restful areas.
