Canvass Paper, 12 x 9, December 2020
Being an artist means looking at identity, social ills, and systems of power. This was what Frida and her work were describing. This piece isn’t a surrealist piece, what Frida commonly painted, but does display the flora that Frida used in her life and in her paintings. Portraiture is about bringing to light the characteristics, personality, and meaning of the person's life. Known well for her many self-portraits, Frida explored identity, postcolonialism, feminism, and race in Mexican society in her artwork. One of the most influential artists known in Mexican art and the international art world.
